100 downloads! update on future of The Town

We have reached 100 downloads! again, that is insane! thank you all for trying out The Town. It has been great seeing people interested in trying out my game. I am still fresh and new to game development, so this has been a great learning experience as well. Making this short game was a way for me to learn unity and some game development (mostly programming). I am a Computer Science major on my last semester and like I have stated before this was made during my game programming class in the span of about 3 months. With this project i mostly focused on learning about the skill I'm studying for which would focus on the programming side. Because of this the models and textures you see are assets I either purchased or got for free in the store. I modified some of these assets to fit the mood of my game because I didn't want this to feel like a simple asset flip. Scripting was my focus and what I know best as a CS major, compared to modeling and art which I have no skills in.

To anyone who is still reading this, ill give you some insight into why and how I came up with this idea for the game. First off I'm a huge horror fan (TCM 1974 is my favorite film) and I love Silent Hill 1 and 2 which I think have not been topped in terms of horror games. SH was my inspiration when making this because I wanted to give a similar experience when it came to horror. This meant, no jump scares, and no walking sim feel. I wanted the fear to grow when someone had to time their aim when shooting or die. I also wanted monsters to catch you by surprise while also being a real threat, so if something jumps at you, you have to defend yourself and not just jump because it was a false scare. To be honest as always when making projects, my vision was much larger than this short experience, however do to time limitations and knowledge i had to scale down to more realistic expectations to get it done. I am hoping that down the line with more experience and a team I can come back to The Town and make it the vision that I originally intended.

To end off this devlog which is waaaay too long, I know, I want to once again thank everyone who has played the game and does who have read this long post. I have some ideas and updates coming soon for The Town so it is not over yet. Improvements, fixes, and some new content here and there can be expected. (maybe some hidden things on the next patch?? wink wink). Thank you again to everyone have a blessed day :).

P.S. I hear one of the residents of The Town will be knocking soon. probably should keep a look out and listen in.
